The new Dior Twin Set Eyeshadow Duo is one of the new products released as part of the Dior 'Chérie Bow' Spring 2013 Collection. I must say the collection didn't spark much excitement in me personally - mostly due to the focus of pink hues - particularly for the eyes(!), which I'm not particularly keen on. Also, the colours didn't seem unique. However, I did pick up three items that took my interest.
Dior Twin Set is a shadow and blender duo pen. Here's what the official Dior website says about it:
There are four shades released in this range:
I picked 'Beige Ribbon' (530) just because I thought it was quite pretty when I swatched it in-store and I could easily see myself wearing this a lot for everyday wear - on its own or just on the lid and layered with other shades.Dior Twin Set is a shadow and blender duo pen. Here's what the official Dior website says about it:
"It is inspired by the secrets of backstage make-up artists who apply a rich shadow then set it with powder for long wear. At one end, a super-soft pencil applies a veil of dense, satin or iridescent eye shadow. At the other end, a foam blender impregnated with shimmering powder makes your colour sparkle."
- Grey Sigh (060)
- Fishnet Black (090)
- Beige Ribbon (530)
- Ballerina Pink (840)
What I liked most about this product is the convenience and practicality of it. If I could do a simple, but pretty eye look with just a single product - and no brushes, no sharpeners required, then hallelujah! Even more brilliant when it comes packaged as a duo pen, it's so easy to carry anywhere, anytime for on-the-go application and touch-ups.

The eyeshadow stick twists up to dispense more product so there is no need to sharpen. :) |

You can use the two ends separately on their own, but it's really meant to be used together. So, you apply the eyeshadow stick over the entire eyelid (blending out with the fingertip if necessary), and then layer the iridescent powder with the foam tip for added dimension and highlight to the eyes. It also helps to set the bottom more creamy eyeshadow layer as mentioned above. Below are photographs of the swatch when the two are layered on top of each other. Clik here to view.

No strobe was used for the above photo in order to capture the micro-shimmers in the blending powder (left swatch) and the sheen of the eyeshadow stick (right swatch). |

Overall Recommendation
Overall, found the product to be fairly good, but I expected more for the hefty price tag. The concept is the similar to Stila's Convertible Eye Colour, but the latter has a more pointed and finer eye pencil that can be used to line the eyes (making it a 3-in-1 product). Dior's is too thick to create a precise eye line in the same way. Anyway, I like the concept of it, but unfortunately after trying it on my eyes, I was let down. i.e., Meh. I found the shade I chose a little to subtle on my skin tone - particularly on the eye lids where I have naturally darker pigmentation. I could barely see the difference. The iridescent powder on the other hand was more noticeable, but again, overall still quite subtle. However, I did try applying the iridescent powder on the high points of my cheeks just as a highlighter and it works fairly well. It's a tad too sparkly for the day, but it would be perfect for a Christmas/New Year's party! Perhaps if I had chosen one of the other deeper shades - more appropriate for a smokey/evening eye look, I would have been wowed by it. /:-\ So, if you're interested, I recommend you try it on your eyes first to give a more accurate gauge of its full effect and pigmentation against the skin tone of your eye lids.
Hope this was somewhat useful.
