CHANEL OMBRE ESSENTIELLE SOFT TOUCH EYESHADOWS IN 'GRI-GRI' AND 'HASARD'

I picked up both the Chanel Ombre Essentielle Soft Touch Eyeshadows released as part of the Fall/Autumn 2013 'Superstition' collection: Hasard and Gri-Gri.  The latter is a limited edition.  Hasard is a mauve taupe with a matte finish.  Gri-Gri is a very similar shade to Hasard, but leans more brown and has a very shimmery finish.  Both have decent pigmentation with Gri-Gri a little more sheer, but can be built up with further layers.  It's best to 'push' or 'pat' Gri-Gri on gently with either the provided sponge applicator or a flat eye brush, than sweeping it on with a brush to prevent fall-out of the micro-shimmers.  Hasard has a lovely, soft, finely milled texture that makes it easy to blend.
Swatches
Applied on my medium, olive, ~NC30 skin tone.  Photographed indoors under artificial lighting and using a strobe.

Both are beautiful shades when swatched, but unfortunately they did not flatter my medium, olive (~NC30) skin tone when applied on my eye lids. :(  The best way that I could use Hasard was on the crease of my lid, perhaps for day time, but even still, it didn't provide enough depth on its own.  It would need another darker shade to provide depth, and Hasard - an expensive, mere 'transition' colour.  It's a little to 'meh' on me, otherwise.  Gri-Gri was not that much better.  The only difference is the micro-shimmery finish.  So, all-in-all both a disappointment for me. Bwaaaah. :'(

I think this would work for those with either fair skin (see Best Things in Beauty) or deeper skin tones (see it on the Weekend Ramblings for example) as the shades would provide enough of a contrast and give more of an impact.

However, overall, I wouldn't say these eye shadows are a must-have from the collection even if they do work for you (and rarely do I say that about Chanel makeup!)  Personally, these were my least favourite and regret buying these two. :(  Check out the quad instead. ;)

Hope this was useful.

Thanks for stopping by! ^_^ xo
