ABOUT THE COLLECTION
"What is lighter than a feather? A cloud of powder, a fleck of gold dust. And even lighter still is the spirit of a festive evening. Graceful and feminine, the feather floats through the world of Chanel landing on a brooch, a fancy cape, an evening gown. The Chanel Makeup Creation Studio has drawn inspiration from the feather’s wispy softness for a collection filled with subtle shades, embellished with gold and silver. Stunning evening makeup, like jewelry made of feathers and diamonds."
I must admit that at first glance, I wasn't too excited by this year's Chanel holiday 2014 collection given that none of the items appeared unique. Being a highlighter fiend, I did consider the highlighter for a bit. I still can't stop using my Poudre Signée de Chanel Illuminating Powder from Spring 2013! It's hard to beat. This holiday's highlighter seemed an unnatural-looking colour. Although the blush appeared your average peach (and I am more of a pink blush fiend), I knew I would still be tempted due to my love of the Chanel Joues Contraste blushes. I also adore the Chanel long wear cream eye shadows, but this collection's release - a seemingly scary orange for the eyes - received no consideration from me. Until that is...the MUA tried them all on me at the store. My fear and boredom dissipated for these three. I must say the blush in particular looked the most flattering on me. :) Here are some sneak peek happy snaps.
CHANEL CAMÉLIA DE PLUMES POWDER IN PLATINE
"As an absolute mark of luxury and fantasy, the feature has inspired a light and refined illuminating powder with precious shimmers blended in a platinum shade."
CHANEL JOUES CONTRASTE BLUSH IN 'CARESSE'
"Soft and neutral peach with silver pearl"
CHANEL ILLUSION D’OMBRE EYESHADOW IN 'ENVOL'
"Peach shimmer"
As these are limited edition, it is worth trying them on first as one or more may just take your fancy then like they did me. I know the highlighter will be the most popular, so I would go on the wait list to make sure you don't miss out.
My review and swatches of all three of my picks will be coming soon on the blog. ;)
The rest I skipped - I couldn't take yet another red nail polish or red lipstick. (At least not so soon LOL) ;) I wasn't drawn enough to this collection's 'Oiseau De Nuit' 5 eye shadow palette - it was quite soft/sheer I noticed, too (a plus or a minus depending no your preference). The peachy pink lipstick 'Volage' was too light for my medium, olive skin tone. The eye pencil 'Or Blanc' (a white gold) looked lovely, especially for highlighting the inner corners of the eyes or lining the lower water-line, but I felt it contrasted a little too much on me for my liking. Worth considering though if you have light to medium skin tones.
