Marc Jacobs The Sky-Liner is a new, limited edition gift set of seven mini Highliner eye pencils for holiday/Christmas 2014. Their Highliner eye pencil range have a gel formula and designed to be waterproof, deliver intense colour and provide "extreme wear". This is the first time I have tried this eye liner range from Marc Jacobs. The only other product I've tried from the brand is their eye shadow palette, which I was a little disappointed with, but I was keen to try their Highliners after reading great reviews.
The Sky-Liner set consists of the brand's five best-selling shades and two new limited-edition eyeliner shades with the set centred around the signature shade of the season, "Midnight in Paris".
Packaging
The set comes packaged in a sleek, black lacquer (plastic so it is lightweight), collectible case with the Marc Jacobs logo embossed in silver on the lid.
Below: one of the Highliner pencils (in the colour O(vert)) up close. The pencils are very modern, sleek-looking in the reflective silver coating and almost featherweight. Be careful not to drop them as I did that and the entire colour content/product itself broke and fell out of the pencil body. Luckily, however, I was able to easily slip it back in and it still works. Phew!
Below is the size of the petite Highliner pencil with respect to my slightly smaller than average hand.
Since I don't own any of the full-sized Marc Jacobs Highliner pencils, below is a comparison of its petite size compared to a full-sized Chanel Style Yeux Waterproof eye pencil.
The pencils do not need sharpening as more product is dispensed by simply twisting the bottom coloured end clockwise. If you dispense too much, you can twist it back in the anti-clockwise direction for the product to retract back down into the pencil body.
Colours
Above image from left to right:
Blacquer - the blackest black I've come across so far in terms of eye pencils. It has a matte finish.
Plum(age) - a vivid purple.
Th(ink) - a satin, deep navy.
Midnight in Paris - a dazzling, inky indigo blue (Limited Edition, Exclusive shade).
Sunset - a golden bronze shimmer (Limited Edition, Exclusive shade). This one is so pretty when used on the bottom lash line and/or in the inner corners of the eyes. :)
Brown(out) - bronze with shimmer.
O(vert) - forest green.
Swatches
For reference, the swatches are applied on my current medium to tan, olive skin tone and photographed indoors using a strobe.

Pigmentation, Texture & Longevity
The pigmentation is top-notch and most of the shades deliver full opacity in one swipe (Plum(age) and Th(ink) were only slightly less pigmented, but still pretty good). It has a soft, but not too soft gel texture that applies on the skin without tugging at it and allows ample time for you to blend it out before it sets. The wear is indeed excellent as it wore on my lash line from morning 'til late evening when I took it off with barely noticeable fading. (Note, I personally never line my waterline as I have very sensitive eyes, so I haven't test the wear in that way). For reference my eye lids have normal skin condition (neither oily or dry) and I wore this without any primer underneath. Also, when I washed the swatches off my arm using a cleansing oil (which usually removes everything including waterproof products in a breeze) - I noticed all the other eye liners came off easily, but the Marc Jacobs Highliner swatches remained and needed to be scrubbed with more effort to remove!

Verdict
Impressive formula that delivers great colour pay-off and longevity. Sleek, collectible gorgeous, convenient packaging. An excellent selection of colours for neutral everyday wear to glitzy, evening glamour. Overall, an amazing - great value introductory set and a terrific Christmas gift idea for yourself or a loved one. Really impressed with the intense, true black in Blacquer, too! I'm a very happy customer. ^_^
